  8. Okay, it's going up on the next call.  Mind you, there one side-effect I don't
  9. like about it.  Any file that it writes back to a ProDOS volume it will add a
  10. resource fork, where it can keep Mac-specific information like icon info, Mac
  11. filetype and file creators, etc..  Of course, this INIT was intended for the
  12. LC only, but I still would like to turn this "feature" off.  The net effect of
  13. this is that the files are rendered useless for ProDOS 8, which can't handle
  14. files with resource forks.  Never fear, there's a resource fork stripper in
  15. GS/OS.  Basically, you can you the the ORCA 2.0 shell and one of the toggle
  16. switches to do it.  I'll explain further if you need more info.

  18. For SyQuests, here's what I do.  Your situation may not allow for this but my
  19. Mac and GS have a permanent AppleTalk link.  All of my SyQuests (old 44s
  20. purchased a couple years ago) are formatted HFS.  If I'm dealing with just a
  21. few megs worth of Apple II files, I'll mount the SyQuest, turn on file
  22. sharing, and copy the files over to the GS via AppleShare.  If it's a real big
  23. job (say, the whole disk is full of ProDOS/GSOS files), then I'll move the
  24. SyQuest over to the GS and do direct copying, as System 6 can certainly handle
  25. HFS formatted SyQuests, and so can the RamFAST as long as current ROMs (3.0+)
  26. are used.  In fact, I used to have the SyQuest on a switchbox when I used an
  27. Apple DMA SCSI card, but this scheme no longer functioned well when I switched
  28. to the RamFAST.  It has to do with SCSI cable length.  I could probably get it
  29. to work again, but I'd need >real< short cables.
